A flexible holiday-week meal plan you'll actually use

A simple 3 to 5 day framework with example meals, built around real life, leftovers and the big dinner.

Thanksgiving week is not the week to start a strict diet. Your schedule is different, the fridge is full of things you only see once a year, and someone is going to hand you a slice of pie. That's a good thing.

What usually helps is not a set of rules but a loose structure that keeps you fueled and feeling like yourself on the days around the big meal. That's what this plan is. It's flexible, it uses leftovers on purpose, and it leaves plenty of room to enjoy the holiday.

The idea: build meals from three anchors

Instead of tracking or cutting, aim to include three things at most meals:

Add a glass of water and you're done. You don't have to be perfect. If a meal only hits two of the three, that's still a good meal.

How to use this framework

Pick how many days you need. If you're home all week, use all five. If you're traveling, use Day 3 and Day 4 at your destination and ignore the rest. Repeat meals freely. Eating the same breakfast three days in a row is not boring, it's one less decision.

Shop once at the start of the week. A short list covers almost everything below: eggs, Greek yogurt, berries or bananas, a bag of spinach, a few bell peppers, potatoes, a frozen vegetable mix, rice, bread or tortillas, chicken thighs or a can of chickpeas, ground turkey or beans for chili, and whatever you need for your holiday dishes.

Example days

Day 1: Set yourself up

Day 2: The busy prep day

Day 3: The big meal

Day 4: Leftover day

Day 5: Back to your normal

Small habits that make it easier

About the big dinner

Enjoy it. One meal, or one long weekend, does not undo your progress. The holidays are about people and tradition, and food is a big part of that. The goal of this plan is simply to make the days around the feast feel steady, so you can show up to the table hungry, happy and guilt-free.

If you have a health condition or specific dietary needs, check with your doctor or a registered dietitian before changing how you eat.

If you'd like help building a plan that fits your own life, that's exactly what nutrition consultations at Boom are for. Our coaches in Lehi and Pleasant Grove can walk you through it one-on-one.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to count calories or macros on this plan?

No. The plan uses three simple anchors at most meals: a protein, a fruit or vegetable, and something satisfying. There are no numbers to hit.

What if I'm traveling for Thanksgiving?

Use only the days you need. Many people use Day 3 and Day 4 at their destination and go back to their normal routine when they get home.

Should I skip breakfast before Thanksgiving dinner?

We suggest eating normally, with some protein at breakfast. Arriving at dinner overly hungry can make it harder to slow down and enjoy the meal.

Is dessert allowed?

Yes. Have the pie. This plan is built around enjoying holiday food, not avoiding it.
